Diego Simeone has refused to confirm or deny whether Atletico Madrid want Alvaro Morata.The Chelsea striker has been linked with a return to his native Spain and Sevilla have been keeping an eye, although their sporting director Joaquin Caparros admitted on Tuesday: “It is true that we have an interest in this player [Morata], but it is a very, very complicated operation.”2

Now Atletico are eyeing Morata as a replacement for Diego Costa who is recovering from an operation on his left foot that took place at the start of December.Simeone, though, refused to make any comments about the possible transfer.“The only thing I’m thinking about is the upcoming match against Levante,’ the manager said after the 1-1 Copa del Rey draw with Girona.“I don’t speak about players that aren’t with us, only those that are.“I can’t confirm or deny anything because coaches wait to see what the club can do.2

“Some players want more minutes, some could be sold by the club, some could arrive. We need to wait until January 31.”Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri appears to have lost patience with Morata, who has only managed nine goals in all competitions this season and has scored just 16 Premier League goals since joining Chelsea from Real Madrid in a reported 60million transfer in July 2017.Sarri is desperate to sign a new striker this month and reports say he is willing to spend 50million to bring Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson to Stamford Bridge, while Spanish outlet Marcasay Gonzalo Higuain is close to joining after agreeing terms with the club.
